Pie Crust Recipe

A nicely made Pie Crust is perfect when combined with any of the filling of your likeness and you can enjoy it according to taste. You can also add spices of your choice like cinnamon, allspice or nutmeg . Add sugar if you like it or just skip it by adding more of a salt for a savory pie crust.

Ingredients:

For Pie Crust:

All Purpose Flour
2 ½ cups
Sugar
½ cup
Salt/ skip in case of salted butter
¼ tsp
Unsalted Butter/Salted Butter
1 cup Frozen, cut into small slices
Iced Water
 3 tbsp.
Egg
1
Cream
1tbsp


How to Bake it?

  • You have to prepare the Pie Crust at least 30minutes in advance.
  • Add the flour, sugar and salt into the food processor and give it a few blends before adding anything else.
  • Now add the butter into it and blend until butter slices are cut into lentil-sized clumps.
  • Add 3tbsp of iced water while pulsing the processor. To test take a little amount of flour into your hand and squeeze it if this does not hold in your hand add a little more of iced water and blend.
  • Take out the flour on your kitchen counter or the pastry sheet and knead the dough until its smooth and form a smooth ball of it. Cut into two halves.
  • Gently press these dough ball into disc shape with an inch of thickness, wrap in a cling film and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes take out the dough and let it rest on the kitchen counter for few minutes to come to room temperature so that the dough will not break while working on it.
  • Take half of the dough and roll it over the counter to give a circular shape and transfer on the pie pan adjust it properly on the pie pan.
  • Take a parchment paper cut into the size of Pie Crust in circular form and cover the surface with it.
  • Take a foil and place only in the middle of Pie pan over parchment paper and place cookie weights or lentils over it to create some weight and preventing the dough from rising while baking.
  • Bake at 218C for 15minutes
  • After 15minutes remove from oven and take out the weights.
  • Pie would be nicely golden brown in color .
  • Mix Cream and Egg in bowl and brush the entire surface with egg wash (doing this will make it nice and brown golden in color and it will also protect the crispiness of crust even if you are adding liquid ingredients to the crust)
  • Prick your dough with the fork
  • Prick it from the sides also. This will prevent dough from rising while baking.
  • Cover only the sides of the Pie Crust with foil this time  and bake it for another 15 minutes at 218C
  • Now after 15minutes reduce the temperature to 190C and bake for another 20minutes or until the center is golden brown.
  • Take out the pan and remove the foils the Pie crust is ready now and you can add whatever filling you like to add in it.
